GREENCITYBUILDINGCOMPANY is the architect and general contractor for the native house, a new home in the san gabriel valley for a large family.
the second GCBC-designed home in the neighborhood, the 7,600 square foot house plus garage and studio is designed for four generations of the same family. four distinct living facilities for each family are oriented around a central courtyard and with a large shared cooking and living area. the house draws inspiration from both traditional chinese hutong homes as well as modern scandinavian cohousing while also reflecting the mixed agricultural neighborhood vernacular. finishes include smooth finish integral color plaster, metal and wood siding systems, and aluminum windows, in addition to the abstracted and streamlined massing. sustainable features include green roof and grey water systems, low-e dual-pane fenestration, multi-zone HVAC systems, tankless water heaters, solar orientation and fenestration designed to maximize passive heating and cooling, and native/water efficient landscaping on zoned drip irrigation systems.
