GREENCITYBUILDINGCOMPANY is the architect for benton, a five house small lot subdivision in the echo park neighborhood of los angeles.
a modern infill development, the project averages the surrounding eclectic neighborhood mix of housing types, sizes, and styles. the project remains a traditional development with straightforward construction means and methods including slab on grade foundations and wood structural systems. like all GCBC projects it employs extensive sustainable elements and features including high performance envelopes, renewable and low/no VOC finishes, passive solar orientation, on site water retention and filtration, water efficient landscaping, and a pedestrian focus. the project was approved in a single review by the city even though a contentious proposal in an active community.
